DANIEL CANOSA | Artistic Director
With a repertoire of symphonic and choral masterworks of all periods, Argentina-born conductor Daniel Canosa, considered one of the best of his generation, has led orchestras and choruses in Argentina, the United States and Europe. Canosa studied composition and orchestral conducting at the Argentine Catholic University and the Universidad Nacional de La Plata. He studied Baroque repertoire under Argentine maestro Sergio Siminovich in Buenos Aires and conductor Nicholas McGegan in Berkeley, California. An extended biographical reference to him appears in the book Careers in the Music Industry, Career Role Models for Young Adults (Mitchell Lane, publishers). RICHARD HORAN | President
Richard is a software programmer/analyst recently relocated from Philadelphia. He has performed with multiple symphonic, operatic and chamber music groups, including principal violist with the University of Pennsylvania Symphony, the New York Chamber Opera Orchestra, NYU Symphony, Washington Square Chamber Ensemble and the Carnegie Symphony Orchestra. Although Richard grew up in Pittsburgh, PA he has spent most of his life in New York City, earning a music business degree at NYU and studying computer programming at Columbia. Richard was Board Secretary for the Brooklyn Symphony and studied viola with Toby Appel.
GENE NAKAJIMA | Vice President
Gene is a psychiatrist at the Center for Special Problems in San Francisco. He attended medical school at Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with Ignatius Gennusa at the Peabody Conservatory.
THOMAS DISANTO | Chief Financial Officer
Thomas is the Budget and Revenue Manager for the City and County of San Francisco. He has more than 17 years experience in public sector finance. He also holds a Master of Music degree and has more than 20 years experience performing in orchestras, chamber groups and as a soloist. He volunteers about 10 hours a week for the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, and is currently the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee.
JEANETTE GRAYCAR | Director
FRED FOX | Director
Fred Fox holds degrees in psychology, public policy and medicine from Harvard has had careers as both professional oboist and internist /emergency physician. He was principal oboist of the Northwest Chamber Orchestra and co-founder of the Texas Bach Aria Group while a graduate student in oboe performance at the University of Texas, Austin. He played with The Portland Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, Philharmonia Baroque and with the baroque orchestras of Vancouver, Seattle, Los Angeles and Amsterdam. Since retiring from medicine, Fred performs with several orchestras and chamber music groups. A member of BARS since its inception, Fred loves the youthful energy of an all-inclusive community of musicians and the family BARS has become. Fred lives with his life partner of over 23 years, Bill Davis, who plays violin in BARS.
HANS BRIGHTBILL | Director
Hans is a research scientist in Immunology at Genentech. He earned a BM in Music and BS in Biological Sciences from UC Irvine, a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from UCLA, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC Berkeley. He studied with Stephen Erdody of the Angeles Quartet and currently studies with Robert Howard. Hans is active in bay area chamber music and has performed with orchestras throughout California including the UC Irvine and UC Berkeley Symphonies, American Youth Symphony, and the Debut Orchestra. He has been involved with BARS since 2008. Hans is a mentor in the UC Irvine School of Biological Sciences Mentor Program for undergraduates and lives in Noe Valley with his partner.
