December 6, 2025: Cyrus Ginwala conducts Conte, Bloch, and Tchaikovsky, featuring BARS’ own Hans Brightbill, cello

7:30 PM, San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Tickets on sale now!

For our next concert, BARS is showcasing the power of music to capture themes related to love, death, and time. We celebrate David Conte’s 70th birthday by playing his Masque of the Red Death, based on a short story by Edgar Allan Poe.

Our principal cellist Hans Brightbill will perform Ernest Bloch’s Schelomo: Rhapsodie Hébraïque, which Bloch composed in his quest to find a musical language rooted in his Jewish heritage.

Two Tchaikovsky masterpieces that plumb the depths of romantic love and the passage of time will round out the program—the Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, inspired by Tchaikovsky’s infatuation of a young man Eduard Zak, and the end of Act I of Nutcracker, which culminates with the Waltz of the Snowflakes.

Frequent BARS guest conductor Cyrus Ginwala will return to lead this concert.
