Announcing BARS’ new Music Director, Robert Mollicone
We are excited to formally announce that Robert Mollicone has been selected as the new music director for the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony!
Bob is a member of the San Francisco Opera’s (SFO) music staff, where he serves as an assistant conductor. His other conducting appearances include Opera San Jose, Austin Opera, and Florentine Opera. He made his Carnegie Hall debut alongside soprano Melody Moore, and is on the faculty of both SFO’s Adler Fellowship and SFCM’s Artist Diploma in Opera Studies as Principal Coach. This past June, he conducted the SFO’s first Pride Concert to wide acclaim.
With such a strong presence in the San Francisco music scene, we know Bob will have a great connection with the BARS community.
Bob’s appointment follows a rigorous year-long search process led by a committee of BARS members. Bob first conducted BARS in October 2024 as part of the audition process, where he demonstrated his tremendous musicality and a great connection to the orchestra. He takes over from Dawn Harms, our previous music director.
Bob will begin his tenure with our upcoming December 6th concert. He is stepping in for Cyrus Ginwala, our previously scheduled guest conductor, who is unable to conduct the concert. Tickets are available now.
