Robert Mollico

Acclaimed conductor, recitalist, and educator Robert Mollicone is sought after for his "ebullient performance[s]" and "finely‑calibrated leadership" spanning the breadth of the symphonic and vocal repertoires. In 2025, he was appointed Music Director of the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony.

As a 15‑season veteran of San Francisco Opera's music staff, he has worked on over 50 productions and conducted their Christmas with Sol3 Mio, Opera in the Park (2014/2019), and 2025's inaugural Pride Concert featuring Jamie Barton, Brian Mulligan, Nikola Printz, and Sapphire Crystal.

Other regional conducting credits include Florentine Opera (L'enfant et les sortilèges, Songbird, Scalia/Ginsburg), Austin Opera (Ariadne auf Naxos), Festival Opera (Carmen, La voix humaine), Opera San Jose (Silent Night), where his "supple gesture coaxed a varied palate of colors from the orchestra," and West Edge Opera (L'arbore di Diana, Elizabeth Cree). He is also a frequent guest at respected orchestras such as the St. Louis Symphony and the Minnesota Orchestra as cover conductor.

In recital, "superb collaborative pianist" Mollicone most recently appeared on tour with soprano Amina Edris and tenor Pene Pati, "providing idiomatic accompaniments in all the varied musical styles." He has also collaborated with Nicholas Phan, Jamie Barton, with whom he was lauded for "miracles of sensitive expression," Ailyn Perez, and Melody Moore.

As a coach and teacher, Mollicone is the Resident Coach of San Francisco Opera's prestigious Adler Fellowship, as well as Head of Music and Principal Coach of the Artist Diploma in Opera Studies at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he presides over a "highly selective, individualized non‑degree program designed for the artist on the path to a professional performance career."
